About this game

Yuoni is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on area and route exploration, story, case, or mission progress, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Atmospheric sunset hiding is weakened by predictable patrols.

Yuoni turns a sunset school legend into a tense game of hide-and-seek. Finding a doll, avoiding spirits and holding one’s breath ask the player to attend to footsteps and lines of sight instead of fighting away the threat. Partly transparent enemies and sparse sound can create genuine uncertainty. Yet several pursuers follow fixed routes, so the fear gradually becomes a matter of waiting for a predictable opening. The contemporary PS5 review also notes uneven enemy animation and limited spatial sound. Breath holding uses a sustained trigger and repeated shoulder-button presses, a physical demand worth considering. This is suited to players drawn to Japanese urban legends and compact stealth horror who can accept rough execution. Anyone expecting sophisticated enemy behaviour or precise directional audio should be cautious. The assessment concerns the historical 2021 PS5 release and makes no assumption about later patches.

Strengths

  • Transparent ghosts and footsteps reward close observation.

Weaknesses

  • Fixed chases and rough animation and sound limit tension.

Who it is for: Horror players who enjoy urban legends and tolerate rough stealth.

Play notes: Historical 2021 PS5 test; later fixes are unverified.
