About this game
Ys X: Nordics follows Adol Christin and Karja Balta across Obelia Gulf. Its Cross Action system lets you fight as either protagonist individually or control both together, changing how you approach encounters. Exploration also puts their abilities to work: Mana String carries you across gaps, and upgrading it opens interactions with objects and dungeon switches. Beyond land, you take the helm of the Sandras. Information gathered in towns and on sea charts points toward islands to investigate, while enemy vessels bring battles that call for different cannon ammunition. Manual and automatic sailing are available, alongside selectable camera viewpoints. This is a single-player adventure, with the paired combat system placing both heroes under your control.
Collected in series
Ys is Falcom’s action RPG series of unfamiliar lands, ancient mysteries and fast-moving battles. Most adventures follow the red-haired Adol as he meets new companions and uncovers the history beneath a place’s troubles. Combat changes between entries, but exploring a new region and moving confidently through danger remain central pleasures.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A natural fit for action-RPG players who want character combat and navigation to share the adventure.
Switching between individual and paired control offers a clear decision within combat. Sailing, naval encounters and expanding Mana interactions suggest variety through changes of activity rather than an uninterrupted sequence of land battles.
Strengths
- The paired-control system gives the protagonists' partnership a direct mechanical role.
- Mana String upgrades connect character abilities with new environmental interactions.
Who it is for: Players interested in learning a paired combat system while also navigating between islands and handling ship battles.
Play notes: Combination Mode controls both protagonists within a single-player game; it is not a cooperative multiplayer mode.
