About this game
Yakuza 0 is a PC action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Like a Dragon, formerly known in English as Yakuza, follows people trying to hold on to loyalty and dignity amid crime and betrayal. Dense city districts invite you to step away from serious drama for games and eccentric side stories. Some entries use direct-action brawling, while Ichiban Kasuga’s adventures bring a party into turn-based combat.

A rich two-lead city adventure receives a largely sound PC port.
The original Windows PC release of Yakuza 0 alternates between Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima in the neon streets of 1980s Kamurocho and Sotenbori. Each fighter has three styles, and money earned in street brawls buys more moves. Basic combinations will carry normal difficulty, but changing styles and using objects as weapons gives willing players more to learn. The serious criminal conspiracy is constantly interrupted by karaoke, arcade games, eccentric substories and business management. That breadth makes the districts feel lived in, though it can delay the central drama for anyone trying to follow it closely. Neon, grime, warmth and absurd comedy create a striking mood despite some low-resolution textures and visible aliasing. PC Gamer directly tested two Windows configurations and reported well over 60fps at high settings with remappable keyboard and gamepad controls. Keyboard movement lacks analogue direction, one borderless-window keyboard setup lightly stuttered, and subtitle and map edges looked rough. These observations cover the reviewed 2018 PC port, not a later Director’s Cut or every current hardware configuration.
Strengths
- Multiple styles, eccentric stories and vivid districts reward exploration.
Weaknesses
- Detours, rough edges and keyboard movement reduce polish.
Who it is for: PC players who enjoy brawling, crime drama and abundant detours.
Play notes: Only the reviewed original 2018 PC port, not Director’s Cut.
