About this game
XCOM Enemy Unknown is a Xbox 360 role-playing game centered on combat encounters, turn-based tactical decisions, and resource or business management. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
XCOM is a science-fiction strategy series best known for combining squad tactics with decisions made back at headquarters. You choose where soldiers move and when they fire, then invest scarce resources in the research and equipment that may keep them alive next time. Its battles turn a broad struggle over Earth into the fate of a few people under your command.

Superb strategic pressure survives a strong pad adaptation, but not every Xbox bug.
On Xbox 360, Enemy Unknown connects cover-based squad tactics, percentage shots, class growth and permanent death to research, satellites and national panic. Each mission can cost a veteran, and each rescue choice may abandon another country, making the campaign gripping well beyond its simple alien-invasion script. An Xbox reviewer who finished multiple campaigns found both battlefield commands and base navigation surprisingly natural on the controller. That same firsthand account is unusually important for this version's limitations: three combat lockups forced a restart, and historical online multiplayer was laggy. Reused tactical maps and modest models also show through repeated campaigns, even though Ironman's single-file autosave strengthens replay for those who welcome consequences. This is still a strong recommendation for console tacticians who accept loss; players particularly sensitive to stability failures should know that the reported problems are concrete, not speculative.
Strengths
- Combat, research and global panic make every sacrifice matter.
Weaknesses
- Reused maps and reported Xbox 360 combat lockups hurt polish.
Who it is for: Console players seeking demanding turn-based strategy.
Play notes: Ironman locks progress to one autosave; historical online quality may not persist.
