About this game

Tomb Raider 2013 is a PC action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

8.4 / 10Windows PC

A handsome, responsive PC origin adventure whose action outclasses its tomb puzzles.

The original Windows release of the 2013 reboot strands Lara on Yamatai and turns survival into a confident action-adventure. Climbing, movement and aiming flow well together. The bow rewards quiet approaches, while firefights and chases make more aggressive play exciting. Rope arrows and other tools gradually reveal previously inaccessible corners of the island. Detailed scenery, expressive animation and strong sound make Lara's transformation convincing, and the PC version offers useful graphics and control options. Yet the central route is highly directed. Documents and relics reward exploration, but most actual tomb puzzles are optional, brief and straightforward. The villain is also less interesting than Lara herself. Technical flexibility comes with a caveat: launch-era testing found expensive effects such as TressFX could punish some hardware configurations, so maximum settings should not be mistaken for a universal baseline. The contemporary multiplayer mode was also less polished than the campaign, and its availability today is not assumed. This score concerns the original Windows release, not later enhanced editions. It strongly suits players seeking cinematic survival action and satisfying movement; those expecting long, demanding tomb puzzles will find a different balance.

Strengths

  • Responsive traversal and combat
  • Detailed PC scenery and strong atmosphere
  • Rewarding upgrade-driven exploration

Weaknesses

  • Directed main path
  • Brief optional tombs
  • Costly visual extras and weaker launch multiplayer

Who it is for: PC players who enjoy cinematic single-player action and can tune graphics to their hardware.

Play notes: Original Windows edition only; high-end effect performance is hardware-dependent, and current multiplayer availability is unverified.
