About this game

Tactics Ogre: Reborn puts you in charge of a force whose units are configured individually through classes, equipment, skills and magic. Battles unfold across terrain with differences in elevation. Before deployment, Scout reveals the battlefield and enemy formation, giving you information to use when deciding which units and loadouts to bring. Progress involves both tactical battles and consequential story decisions. Your choices change the narrative route and ending, while the Union Level raises the ceiling for unit growth as the story advances. The Chariot Tarot lets you rewind a limited number of battle actions and try a different decision. Preparation, adjustments during combat and choices outside battle all form part of the game's structure.

Collected in series

Ogre Battle is a fantasy strategy-RPG saga about building an army amid wars and political upheaval. Recruit fighters and combine their classes, then command squads on moving battlefields or position individual units in the turn-based Tactics Ogre branch. Choices beyond combat can also change the course of the story.

8.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

A fit for tacticians who enjoy preparing a force around the opposition.

Scout and individual loadouts can make preparation as interesting as the battle itself. The story-linked level cap puts a boundary on grinding, so players who enjoy revising their approach have a clearer reason to engage with unit combinations.

Strengths

  • Advance scouting can turn party selection into a response to a specific battlefield.
  • Limited battle rewind gives players room to compare alternative decisions.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer overcoming obstacles through unrestricted level grinding may find the Union Level restrictive.

Who it is for: Players drawn to squad configuration and stories shaped by their decisions.

Play notes: Unit levels are limited by the Union Level, which rises with story progression.
