About this game

Skul sets out to rescue the Demon King after a human attack. This side-scrolling action game builds its combat around interchangeable skulls: each brings different abilities and attack characteristics, including reach, speed and power. You can carry two at once and swap between them during a fight, choosing a pairing and deciding when to change your approach. The route unfolds through maps that change between attempts, with a boss waiting at the end of each chapter. Failure starts another attempt. Pixel-art characters and environments frame this repeated push through the stages, while the skull system gives you different ways to take on the enemies along the way.

8.1 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for action players who enjoy changing their fighting style within a run.

Carrying two skulls turns a loadout choice into an ongoing decision about when to switch abilities. Changing maps and chapter bosses suggest a loop built around adapting and trying again, which is most appealing if restarting is part of the attraction.

Strengths

  • Different skull abilities give players a concrete reason to experiment with pairings.
  • Chapter bosses can give each push through changing maps a clear intermediate goal.

Weaknesses

  • The restart rule may discourage players who mainly want uninterrupted forward progress.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy comparing attack styles and adjusting their approach during combat.
