About this game

Pac-Man’s task is built around movement through a maze: keep eating its cookies while staying away from the ghosts that pursue you. Route choice is therefore tied to the positions of both the food and the threats moving around it. Power cookies change that relationship by reversing attack and defence. Reaching one is more than another collection task; it provides a different way to respond to nearby ghosts. This Famicom version brings the arcade game’s maze-and-chase premise to the home console.

8.5 / 10Famicom / NES

For players who enjoy route choices within a clear chase-and-escape rule.

Food collection and ghost avoidance share the same space, so route choices serve competing needs. Reversing the chase can give those decisions a distinct change of emphasis.

Strengths

  • A power cookie changes the meaning of approaching a ghost.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy maze navigation and judging when to escape or pursue.
