About this game

Nuclear Throne sends you through a world where humanity is gone and mutants compete for the throne. Choose a character with distinct active and passive abilities, fight through randomized levels and collect radiation to acquire mutations. The weapons range from shotguns and machine guns to screwdrivers, while the journey passes through deserts, frozen cities and underground laboratories. Character abilities and mutations provide different ways to approach the fighting. Each attempt combines those powers with the weapons and changing layouts you encounter. Failure sends you back to start another run, making the recurring structure a cycle of fighting, mutating and trying again.

7.4 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for players who enjoy adapting their shooter tactics across repeated attempts.

Character abilities and radiation-driven mutations give experimentation a concrete role in combat. Randomized layouts and restarts should appeal most when learning another approach is part of the attraction.

Strengths

  • Distinct character powers and mutations offer reasons to change how you approach a run.
  • Unusual weapons can make experimentation extend beyond choosing another firearm.

Weaknesses

  • Starting over after failure may frustrate players who prefer uninterrupted campaign progress.

Who it is for: Players interested in action shooters where changing abilities and layouts invite repeated adaptation.

Play notes: Multiplayer requires a compatible controller for each player.
