About this game
Monster Hunter Wilds is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on area and route exploration, story, case, or mission progress, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Monster Hunter is Capcom’s franchise about encounters with extraordinary creatures. Its action games turn preparation, well-timed attacks and gathered materials into successful hunts and new equipment, while the Stories spin-offs explore companionship with monsters through turn-based adventures.

PlayStation 5AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
Distinct weapons and readable wounds reward observation and practice.
Monster Hunter Wilds excels when studying a creature leads directly to a better attack. Distinct weapons, Focus Mode and wound destruction make observation rewarding, with enough variety to justify learning another weapon. The guided opening introduces crafting and gathering naturally, while the longer-term appeal depends on enjoying repeated hunts and equipment refinement rather than a constant supply of new story scenes. Monster animation and sound also serve a practical purpose by helping players recognise attacks. On PS5, the training area, configurable radial menu and automatic crafting ease preparation, but complex inputs and setup still require patience. Launch crashes are not assumed to describe the current build, and unplayed expansion content is outside this assessment. Start by finding a comfortable weapon before joining multiplayer hunts.
Strengths
- Excellent weapon depth and attack recognition
- Creature presentation supports combat
Weaknesses
- Repeated hunts and complex inputs demand patience
Who it is for: Action players who enjoy learning weapons and equipment
Play notes: Performance varies by hardware and build; try the demo and do not assume launch issues persist.
