About this game
Final Fantasy IX is a role-playing adventure built around an ensemble of travellers in a fantasy world. Zidane’s theatre troupe kidnaps Princess Garnet of Alexandria, only to discover that she wanted to leave. Unusual circumstances bring the princess, her guard and the troupe together against a threat to their world. Equipment teaches abilities that remain available once mastered, while taking hits fills a gauge for a powerful Trance state. Item synthesis and party development accompany diversions including Chocobo treasure hunting, jump rope and Tetra Master cards, offering activities beyond the central journey.
Collected in series

FINAL FANTASY IX
Meaningful equipment growth and varied diversions endure beneath an uneven visual update and slow battle pacing.
Final Fantasy IX gives equipment a purpose beyond immediate statistics: mastering its abilities makes them permanent, connecting collection with long-term character growth. Party roles and Trance add considerations to combat, while Chocobo hunting, cards and jump rope provide different goals away from the main journey. The PC edition adds autosaving, speed options and encounter controls that can reduce repetition, although players should choose them according to the challenge they want to preserve. Sharper character models and cinematics improve definition, but their contrast with low-resolution backgrounds becomes conspicuous on a large nearby display. Long combat animations can also make the adventure feel slow. It remains an appealing structure for players who enjoy traditional party development and exploration. Those expecting fully rebuilt artwork or consistently rapid battle feedback should temper those expectations.
Strengths
- Permanent equipment abilities give growth decisions weight
- Varied activities extend exploration
Weaknesses
- Inconsistent sharpness across visual assets
- Long battle animations
Who it is for: RPG players who enjoy equipment planning, party growth and optional exploration.

| Dimension Chocobo treasure hunting, jump rope, cards and synthesis provide goals outside the main journey. The range is substantial, although its different minigame rhythms will not appeal equally. | Reviewed | 8.6 / 10 | 0.25 |
| Dimension Mastering equipment abilities gives loadouts lasting significance alongside distinct roles and a damage-fed Trance system. Long battle animations can slow the feedback between decisions. | Reviewed | 8.5 / 10 | 0.4 |
| Dimension The PC accounts praise sharper character models and cinematics but identify a visible contrast with low-resolution backgrounds. The artwork remains distinctive, with uneven treatment across assets. | Reviewed | 8.1 / 10 | 0.2 |
| Dimension The 2016 PC test confirms keyboard and mouse menus, point interaction and partial rebinding, with good results over several hours on its specified laptop. Official menu and music-resume fixes supersede those launch complaints. | Reviewed | 7.8 / 10 | 0.15 |
