About this game

Dark Souls Remastered is an action role-playing game driven by exploration and demanding encounters. Players enter Lordran, finding routes through dark environments and different opponents while gradually understanding how to develop their character and approach the challenges ahead. Progress calls for observing situations, trying ideas and practising their execution. Players can change how they handle enemies and decide their own direction for exploration and growth. The remaster collects the original game and Artorias of the Abyss in one package, making the additional adventure part of the same journey.

Dark Souls: Remastered

Patient combat and a world worth understanding reward persistence, while restrained guidance and ageing detail make the welcome demanding.

The strongest reward is a change in understanding. An opponent that once seemed unreasonable becomes readable, or a route that felt isolated acquires a place in a larger mental map. Careful attacks and deliberate movement make that knowledge useful immediately. Character development offers another way to approach a problem, but cannot remove the need to pay attention. The world’s connections encourage curiosity without constantly declaring what should happen next. The same restraint can leave a newcomer uncertain whether to persevere or look elsewhere. Its gloomy visual identity remains effective even where individual models show their age. The inspected remaster PC reports describe working keyboard and controller input, with appropriate keyboard prompts noted in the technical account. This makes learning its demands more approachable, without turning it into an undemanding adventure. Returning players should expect a familiar journey rather than a redesigned game.

Strengths

  • Learning enemies and understanding connected spaces make progress feel earned.

Weaknesses

  • Sparse guidance can obscure the next useful step, and some models retain obvious age.

Who it is for: Players willing to observe, explore and revise an approach after failure.

Play notes: Remastered PC input: Jessica Wagar, Bleeding Cool, June 25, 2018, keyboard/mouse and Steam Controller, rig/patch/hours unspecified; Jarred Walton, PC Gamer, May 26, 2018, confirms input prompts. Benchmark systems are separate from Wagar’s test. No current universal FPS or latency claim. Official November 9, 2022 notice restored this edition’s PC servers; the 2012 Prepare to Die shutdown is a different edition. Current matchmaking health is unmeasured.
