About this game

Four Warriors of Light receive powers from the crystals and set out to save a world threatened by darkness. Each adventurer has a changeable job, so the party can be rebuilt around sword fighting, healing or offensive magic instead of keeping fixed roles throughout the journey. New jobs appear as the story advances. Prepare for a dungeon or boss by reconsidering the party composition and front or back row, then manage the limited uses available at each spell level. Summoning also changes effect according to the job casting it.

Collected in series

Final Fantasy is a role-playing series created by Square in 1987, built around fantastical journeys, memorable characters and growing stronger together. Most numbered entries introduce their own world and cast. From crystals and magic to cities where machinery meets fantasy, each adventure offers a different view.

8.7 / 10Famicom / NES

A party-building quest for players who enjoy reconsidering combat roles.

Changing jobs makes preparation part of the adventure. Limited spell uses give that flexibility a resource cost that can reward careful planning.

Strengths

  • Jobs and formation offer several ways to approach the same party problem.

Who it is for: Players interested in party composition and managing magic between battles.
