About this game
Dragon Age 2 is a PC role-playing game centered on area exploration, combat and party setup, and character progression. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Dragon Age is BioWare’s fantasy role-playing series set in Thedas. Build a hero, fight alongside companions and make difficult choices about whom to trust or support. Conversations and personal quests give those companions a place in the adventure beyond their combat abilities.

Strong character drama with awkward PC combat translation.
Dragon Age II narrows its story to Hawke’s years in Kirkwall. Varric’s account, divided companions and the struggle between mages and templars give the city’s relationships more weight than the size of its map. Abilities fire quickly and combat has immediate visual force. The Windows PC version also exposes the redesign’s costs. Enemies often arrive in unannounced waves, making paused plans unreliable, while an action system suited to a controller shipped without native gamepad support. Mouse and keyboard movement and target selection can interrupt its intended flow. A direct PC review reports better textures, loading and performance than the contemporary console versions on the hardware it tested. Those benefits do not erase the interface friction or repeated fighting, and they are not a guarantee for every modern PC. This is a judgment of the 2011 base PC release, independent of the protected Xbox 360 V3 review. Players drawn to concentrated character drama may enjoy it; those seeking the dense tactics of Origins should temper expectations.
Strengths
- Varric’s framing, companions and quick abilities.
Weaknesses
- Spawning waves, absent native gamepad support and repetition.
Who it is for: PC players who value character drama and brisk RPG combat.
Play notes: Only the 2011 PC base release is assessed.
