About this game
DOOM is a Xbox 360 shooter game centered on aiming and shooting, positioning and evasion, and weapon and firepower management. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
DOOM is id Software’s first-person shooter series about fighting demons with powerful weapons. Most entries favor constant movement and quick weapon changes, though DOOM 3 takes a slower, horror-focused approach. Later games make attacking part of survival, turning enemies into sources of health, armor and ammunition.

Xbox 360AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
Strong movement-driven combat survives a port with conservative options.
Doom on Xbox 360 preserves the relationship that makes its encounters compelling: movement changes the threat posed by enemies, and attacks exploit the space that remains. Removing the need for vertical aim does not remove the value of quick judgment. Corners, enemy behavior and escape routes still matter. Familiar levels reward practice, while the fourth episode pushes that challenge considerably harder. Saving freely helps control the cost of experimentation without making the difficulty progression entirely smooth. The original imagery and music retain a distinctive identity, but this is not a modern visual reconstruction. Basic analog play works well; restricted adjustment and historical network problems make the conversion less comprehensive than it could be. Single-player and local split-screen remain the dependable basis of this historical assessment, without a promise of current sales or matchmaking activity.
Strengths
- Effective movement and threat management
- Four episodes and flexible saving
Weaknesses
- Limited control adjustment
- Steeper final-episode challenge
Who it is for: Classic shooter players interested in fast combat and local cooperation.
Play notes: The 2006 XBLA version; current sales and online matchmaking are unverified.
