About this game
Contra: Operation Galuga is a PlayStation 5 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, combat encounters, and story, case, or mission progress. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Contra is a run-and-gun action series where commandos jump, shoot and push through military fortifications and alien attacks. Weapon pickups, towering bosses and cooperative play turn each advance into a busy test of movement and aim.

PlayStation 5AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
Flexible weapons refresh a familiar run-and-gun foundation.
Operation Galuga creates decisions through two carried weapons, overload attacks, double jumps and dashes. Keeping a favourite gun competes with sacrificing it for immediate protection or damage, while character abilities offer different ways through familiar hazards. Arcade and short challenge modes give the brief campaign useful replay goals. Difficulty is less evenly judged, with health and perk settings making substantial jumps in challenge. The PS5 review finds movement and jumping faithful and satisfying, with music and voice performances reinforcing the energetic tone. Later patches are outside this historical assessment. Replay value comes from learning enemy patterns and improving routes, rather than simply extending the story.
Strengths
- Weapons and mobility create meaningful choices.
- Additional modes give practice a purpose.
Weaknesses
- Difficulty settings create uneven transitions.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy rehearsing routes and arcade shooting.
Play notes: Based on March 2024 retail platform reviews, not current-patch testing.
