About this game
Book of Unwritten Tales 2, The is a Wii U puzzle game centered on rule recognition, spatial or logical judgment, and successive puzzle solving. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio, touch, or pointer feedback need to support decisions directly, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that limited explanations, input recognition, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

A witty adventure with disputed Wii U stability.
The Wii U edition of The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 keeps the classic adventure loop of talking, exploring scenes and combining objects. Ivo, Wilbur and Nate take turns moving the fantasy story forward, while the opening tutorial makes the setting relatively easy to enter. Most puzzles have an understandable logic and reward an eventual connection between clues. Some are poorly signposted, however, and lengthy exchanges or wandering between locations can interrupt the pace. The game's most reliable pleasure lies in its playful character writing, genre references and colourful, detailed locations. Voice performances mostly support that mood. The Wii U edition does not use touch input for its inventory, and on-screen text can be small. Two firsthand reviewers differ on stability: Nintendo Life encountered abrupt audio changes, freezes and a fault that prevented saving once, while Movies Games and Tech found only minor saving lag and appreciated right-stick target selection. A severe interruption is therefore a credible risk in one reviewed build, not an established universal condition. The story and humour remain attractive to patient adventure fans, with technical expectations tied to the actual version played.
Strengths
- Changing protagonists and a clear opening make the extended story approachable.
- Character banter and genre parody turn conversations into a reward for exploring.
- Detailed, varied locations give the comic fantasy setting a distinct appearance.
Weaknesses
- Occasionally unclear clues and lengthy dialogue interrupt the puzzle rhythm.
- Touch input is underused, and some reviewed builds had disruptive faults.
Who it is for: Fans of dialogue-heavy fantasy adventures and inventory puzzles who can tolerate small text and version uncertainty.
Play notes: Two Wii U firsthand reviews disagree on stability. Patch revisions and the reason for that difference were not established, so severe faults are not assumed to affect everyone.
