About this game

Bomberman Ultra is a PlayStation 3 action game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and movement and immediate actions. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Stable local bomb battles; solo depth and current online access are limited or unknown.

Bomberman Ultra on PS3 succeeds by keeping its grid battles legible: place a bomb, judge the blast, and use power-ups to trap an opponent before the same calculation turns against you. Movement on the d-pad or stick, X for bombs and Square for punching them after collecting the relevant item are easy to grasp. Fourteen arenas, fifty costume pieces and the included expansion content add variety, but bot practice has little of the tension of playing with other people. Bright cartoon spaces and substantial explosion effects make danger readable; the mix is oddly quiet overall. The direct 2009 PS3 account reports responsive inputs, 60-frame play without slowdown even amid many explosions, and local matches using seven controllers. Those are release-specific advantages. It also discusses online play as it existed then; present service availability was not verified and is not assumed. This is most rewarding for groups who enjoy short, tactical contests rather than a solo campaign.

Strengths

  • Seven-controller local play, clear arenas and smooth explosions.

Weaknesses

  • Thin bot practice and low overall volume.

Who it is for: Groups seeking quick local tactical matches.

Play notes: 2009 PSN edition; current online service unverified.
