About this game

Bit.Trip Complete is a Wii shooter game centered on story, case, or mission progress, aiming and shooting, and positioning and evasion. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while standard-definition output, motion feedback, and interface scale at television distance need to preserve control readability. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and multiplayer service conditions can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include the Sensor Bar, remote batteries, motion calibration, peripheral requirements, storage limits, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

A rich six-game Wii anthology with demanding extras.

BIT.TRIP COMPLETE is a Wii disc anthology, not another name for any one WiiWare release. It gathers the six original games—BEAT, CORE, VOID, RUNNER, FATE and FLUX—whose rhythm-arcade rules range from paddle returns to running and shooting. Their responsive controls, retro visuals and distinct chiptune soundtracks remain intact, so the package shows the series’ variety rather than flattening it into one mode. The disc adds easy and hard difficulty settings and twenty shorter special challenges for each game, totaling 120 new trials. Unlockable artwork, videos, audio and developer letters also make it a useful archive. The demanding challenges are not uniformly forgiving, however, and much of the archive must be earned through difficult play. A direct review of the Wii disc describes online leaderboards as a launch feature, but that historical observation is not a promise that the service works today. This release is well suited to players seeking the whole six-game cycle on one disc, especially those willing to master difficult extra challenges. Its added settings and content are assessed only for COMPLETE, not retroactively assigned to the individual WiiWare downloads.

Strengths

  • Six games, 120 challenges and an archival gallery.

Weaknesses

  • Much bonus material sits behind severe challenges.

Who it is for: Players seeking the whole series and extra mastery.

Play notes: 2011 Wii disc; current leaderboard service unverified.
