About this game

BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien is a Wii U music and rhythm game centered on music, rhythm, and performance, beat recognition, and motion or button timing. Songs and difficulty tiers support short repeated practice, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Music, input prompts, and synchronized performance carry the appeal, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that calibration, motion recognition, latency, and dense charts can affect precision. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

8.2 / 10Wii U

A generous rhythmic runner with occasional visual clutter.

The Wii U version of BIT.TRIP Presents... RUNNER2 expands the original auto-runner into a much broader rhythm-platform journey. Players jump, slide and punch in time with an increasingly layered soundtrack across roughly 125 stages. Branching paths, alternative exits and collectibles give repeated runs concrete goals. Three difficulty settings make the challenge more approachable while preserving precise demands for skilled players; the curve is smoother than the first game’s without removing mastery. Animated characters, exuberant scenery, comic narration and buoyant music establish a warmer personality than the earlier pixel aesthetic. That visual energy sometimes works against the game when an obstacle blends into a busy background, creating occasional unfair-feeling mistakes. The direct Wii U review confirms off-screen GamePad play, but observes that even the large menu buttons do not support touch input. Thus this edition uses one valuable platform feature while leaving another obvious affordance unused. It suits players who enjoy rehearsing short rhythmic stages with adjustable pressure. No PS3 or PS Vita control, performance or feature claim is transferred to this Wii U assessment.

Strengths

  • Branching stages, exuberant style and flexible difficulty.

Weaknesses

  • Busy backgrounds obscure hazards; menus lack touch.

Who it is for: Players seeking replayable rhythm-platform stages.

Play notes: Wii U only; PS3 and Vita need separate evidence.
