About this game

The Battletoads set out to rescue Pimple and Princess Angelica from the Dark Queen. Fight her forces with punches, slams and kicks, pick up usable weapons and run into attacks by double-tapping a direction. Avoid obstacles as well as dealing with enemies. The journey does not stay entirely on foot: some stages put the action onto vehicles such as a speed bike or space board. The task therefore changes from arranging close combat to steering through hazards, while lives and energy remain separate resources.

8.6 / 10Famicom / NES

For players who want action that changes its demands between stages.

Brawling and riding ask for different reactions. That variety can appeal when learning a new obstacle pattern is part of the attraction.

Strengths

  • Stage changes put combat and vehicle control in the same adventure.

Who it is for: Players willing to learn different action situations across a rescue quest.
