About this game

Baroque for Wii is a Wii role-playing game centered on area exploration, combat and party setup, and character progression. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while standard-definition output, motion feedback, and interface scale at television distance need to preserve control readability. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include the Sensor Bar, remote batteries, motion calibration, peripheral requirements, storage limits, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Wii widescreen helps, but camera and input blunt the mystery.

Baroque for Wii retains the remake’s unsettling dungeon loop. Players descend a changing tower, use or throw unusual items, die, then return to a ruined settlement where new conversations and a few retained resources reveal more of the story. Failure therefore has narrative purpose, but it does not make each return comfortable. Similar floors, limited melee and a camera that must be managed manually obscure threats. Distinctive monsters, an anime opening and dark ambient music give the world a personality that grainy textures and expressionless faces cannot fully support. A direct Wii assessment distinguishes this edition from PS2: it offers progressive widescreen output, yet busy scenes can slow, the Remote and Nunchuk item-throw input sits awkwardly, and lock-on shares a troublesome camera-reset mapping. Patient dungeon-crawler enthusiasts may enjoy piecing together its mystery. Players seeking fluid combat or generous guidance should be cautious; neither the original 1998 game nor PS2 behavior is simply inherited.

Strengths

  • Death-loop clues, items and atmosphere stand out.

Weaknesses

  • Camera, throw mapping and slowdown hinder runs.

Who it is for: Patient fans of opaque dungeon mysteries.

Play notes: Wii port only; duplicate catalog entry untouched.
