About this game
Amazing Spider-Man 2, The is a Wii U fighting game centered on combat encounters, story, case, or mission progress, and move inputs. Short bouts use character differences and rising difficulty for variety, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hit feedback, and readable arenas create match tension, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that button or motion mapping, move recognition, networking, and cpu behavior can affect balance. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Recognisable Spider-Man fun, seriously compromised execution
Swinging between towers still gives this version a recognisable superhero appeal. Separate wrists and slow-time targeting preserve an enjoyable movement idea, while costumes, comics and character collectibles reward fans. The city soon becomes less liberating, however. A declining reputation meter pushes you into repetitive incidents and their unskippable completion scenes. Similar attack-and-dodge encounters offer little compensation for that obligation. Reused dialogue, abrupt musical transitions and oversized interface text further weaken the presentation. More importantly, erratic ground movement and lengthy loading interrupt the action, with tearing adding another distraction. GamePad off-TV play is a practical benefit, but cannot repair the underlying friction. Consider it cautiously for its collectibles rather than as a polished, freely paced Spider-Man adventure.
Strengths
- Distinctive wrist-based swinging and costume progression
- GamePad off-TV play
Weaknesses
- Reputation upkeep forces repetitive side incidents
- Erratic ground movement, loading and tearing disrupt play
Who it is for: Dedicated Spider-Man collectors willing to tolerate substantial friction.
Play notes: Based on the 2014 North American Wii U review build; later patch effects are unverified and the GamePad map is non-interactive in television mode.
