About this game

AFL Premiership 2007 is a PlayStation 2 sports game centered on sport controls, shifts between attack and defense, and score or tournament goals. Matches, challenges, and tournament goals give sessions clear boundaries, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Players, venues, animation, and score feedback establish the match atmosphere, while 3D scenes, streamed data, cinematics, surround audio, and interlaced television output need to preserve action and state readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that opponent ai, control precision, multiplayer accessories, and period-specific rosters can affect consistency. Platform conditions also include DVD loading, the 8MB Memory Card, analog sticks and pressure-sensitive buttons, Multitap, Network Adapter, dedicated peripherals, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Career depth remains, but on-field gains are small.

AFL Premiership 2007 retains the series’ most worthwhile feature on PS2: a multi-season career spanning sixteen clubs, player development, trades, and a draft. A new evasive spin and somewhat faster running occasionally help attacking play, while easy difficulty removes the goal-kick meter for newcomers. Weekly training is a less successful addition, improving attributes so slowly that the existing development-point system feels more useful. Historical missions also place the contemporary roster into older matches, undercutting their sense of period. On the field, turns and command response are still sluggish. Bumps and missed tackles leave players recovering too long, and the goal meter at higher difficulties interrupts a promising attack. Blocky likenesses and repeated commentary, sometimes inconsistent with the actual contest, weaken the licensed presentation. Fans who lack the previous release and mainly want an Australian football career may find value here. Owners of the 2006 game receive too few meaningful changes.

Strengths

  • Multi-season career and drafting retain long-term appeal.

Weaknesses

  • Slow control, tedious training and weak presentation.

Who it is for: Australian football fans without the prior entry.

Play notes: Based on the tested 2007 PS2 release; age alone is not penalized.
