About this game

007 - From Russia with Love is a PlayStation 2 shooter game centered on aiming and shooting, positioning and evasion, and weapon and firepower management. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while 3D scenes, streamed data, cinematics, surround audio, and interlaced television output need to preserve action and state readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include DVD loading, the 8MB Memory Card, analog sticks and pressure-sensitive buttons, Multitap, Network Adapter, dedicated peripherals, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Connery atmosphere exceeds the simple combat loop.

Sean Connery’s voice and likeness, Istanbul locations and forceful sound give this PS2 adaptation a persuasive 1960s Bond atmosphere. Lock-on plus Bond Vision allows precise shots at enemy equipment, while film sequences such as the camp and consulate become playable firefights. Driving and jetpack moments add some spectacle. Gadgets are often required only at designated points, however, and much of the campaign settles into locking on, targeting and firing. Easy encounters do little to develop that loop, while the added finale sits awkwardly beside the film story. It is best for players who value the Connery-era presentation and accept straightforward action. The contemporary PS2 account finds the controls adequate for shooting; the main criticism is repetitive design rather than inaccessible input. This is the home-console edition with its vehicle material, not the cut-down PSP port or its different camera problems.

Strengths

  • Film scenes, voice work and driving give strong flavour.

Weaknesses

  • Gadgets matter little and lock-on fights repeat.

Who it is for: Classic-Bond fans happy with accessible action.

Play notes: 2005 PS2 edition includes driving absent from PSP.
