PlayStation 3, or PS3, is Sony’s home console that first launched in Japan on November 11, 2006. It belongs to the high-definition television era and also plays Blu-ray movies. Original, Slim and Super Slim systems are different designs within this generation.
Physical games mainly arrive on Blu-ray discs, while digital games and saves use the console’s storage. HDMI connects it to compatible displays. The XMB interface organizes games, media and settings into horizontal categories. The original wireless Sixaxis controller provides motion sensing; DualShock 3 adds vibration to that approach. Selected games support PlayStation Move accessories as another way to play.
PS2 disc compatibility is limited to particular early PS3 models, with additional game-specific limitations. Check the exact model rather than assuming every PS3 can replace a PS2. Original PlayStation disc support also needs regional and title checks. When using older hardware, confirm controller pairing, available storage, disc-drive condition and required updates. Different game editions do not automatically share compatible saves.
