About this game

XCOM® 2 Collection places you in command of a guerrilla resistance on an alien-ruled Earth. During missions, spend each soldier's action points on movement, attacks or abilities. Cover reduces the chance of being hit, and most missions begin with your squad concealed, giving you an opportunity to position an ambush. Soldiers killed in combat are permanently lost. Between operations, develop facilities and research or upgrade weapons and armour aboard the Avenger headquarters. The collection includes War of the Chosen, which adds soldier classes, along with Resistance Warrior Pack, Anarchy's Children, Alien Hunters and Shen's Last Gift. You can activate additional content or play the base game alone.

7.9 / 10Nintendo Switch

For players who enjoy planning squad actions and accepting that tactical losses can change a campaign.

Action-point spending, cover and concealed openings invite decisions about positioning before committing to an attack. Headquarters development may appeal to players who want their tactical approach supported by longer-term equipment choices.

Strengths

  • Concealed openings and cover give positioning several concrete tactical uses.
  • Facility and equipment development connects mission tactics with broader preparation.

Weaknesses

  • Permanent deaths can conflict with a preference for keeping a fixed, favourite squad.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy turn-based positioning, research priorities and adapting their plans after losing soldiers.

Play notes: Nintendo's UK listing specifies a required download and a separately sold microSD card for this edition.
