About this game
Ultra Street Fighter IV adds five fighters to the established roster, bringing the total to forty-four. Normal attacks, special moves and resource management give each character a different approach to one-on-one combat. Ultra Combo Double equips both Ultra Combos at reduced damage. Red Focus spends additional resources to absorb successive hits, while delayed wake-up changes the timing after a knockdown. Edition Select offers different historical character versions, and training and recorded bouts provide ways to study match situations.
Collected in series
Street Fighter is Capcom’s fighting series, where one-on-one bouts turn on spacing, timing and each character’s techniques. Learning when to approach, defend or answer an opening gives even a short match plenty to think about.

Ultra Street Fighter 4
Meaningful refinements keep the established fighter rewarding, with strong pad controls and limited practical teaching.
Ultra Street Fighter IV makes familiar situations worth reconsidering. Equipping both Ultras sacrifices damage for options, while Red Focus and delayed wake-up alter the rhythm of sustained pressure and knockdowns. Character adjustments add further reasons to revisit match knowledge. Forty-four fighters, historical versions and practice tools give committed players plenty to study, although the benefits are clearest with an existing foundation. The identified PS3 test finds DualShock combos and button configuration effective. Learning what to do remains harder: instruction relies heavily on text and images, leaving newcomers to discover when their inputs are useful. Colourful models, exaggerated animation, new stages and forceful audio maintain the series’ identity rather than rebuilding it. Players interested in long-term character and opponent study will find substantial value, while those seeking a thoroughly guided introduction still face a steep learning process.
Strengths
- Refinements deepen offensive and defensive choices
- Extensive character study
- Effective configurable PS3 pad controls
Weaknesses
- Limited practical instruction
- Additions favour existing familiarity
Who it is for: Fighting players with some foundation who want to study characters and timing over many matches.
Play notes: Independent judgment from Nathan Michalik’s June 29, 2014 North American PS3 review and Kyle Sudukis’s August 13, 2014 PS3 test, not our own playtest. Hours, model and patch are unspecified. Later PS4 port issues and current online availability are excluded. An inaccurate resource description and uncertain-date legacy Trials complaints are not adopted as present facts.
