About this game

Tales of the World - Radiant Mythology 2 is a PSP role-playing game centered on area exploration, combat and party setup, and character progression. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Crossover parties and combos entertain, but repeated errands and leveling drag.

Radiant Mythology 2 lets a custom adventurer change classes, collect equipment and fight alongside familiar Tales characters. Improved attack alignment and combo flow make experimenting with party roles enjoyable, while visible equipment changes give collection a tangible payoff. Conversations aboard the ship and well-arranged battle music add warmth to the crossover. The journey nevertheless depends heavily on repeated hunting and gathering requests. Accepting only one relevant errand at a time encourages return trips, and inactive companions still need separate leveling. Required low-level guests and uneven class effectiveness further restrict practical party freedom. Music is a highlight, but minimally moving story scenes can make action difficult to follow. PSP saving is quick, with noticeable waits at some dungeon transitions, boss encounters and chats. It suits players who enjoy repeated battles and character development more than tightly paced storytelling.

Strengths

  • Classes and visible equipment support varied roles and tangible growth.
  • Shipboard interactions and battle arrangements give the crossover warmth.

Weaknesses

  • Repeated errands, separate leveling, class imbalance and required weak guests restrict party building.

Who it is for: For players who enjoy quest battles, equipment collecting and Tales character interactions.

Play notes: This covers the Japanese PSP original; inactive characters do not gain levels, and linked online services are excluded.
