About this game

After Risky Boots steals a dangerous lamp, Shantae sets out to stop her. Fight with hair attacks, discover magic, and explore deserts, forests, caverns and labyrinths. Dance transformations change what you can do: the monkey form climbs walls and jumps higher, while the elephant form charges through obstacles. Working through the adventure means using these different abilities to handle the terrain as well as enemies. Director's Cut presents the journey with pixel-art animation and includes an unlockable Magic Mode. The Switch edition supports TV, tabletop and handheld play, so the same adventure can be played in different settings.

7.5 / 10Nintendo Switch

A fit for players who enjoy choosing the right ability for the obstacle ahead.

The monkey and elephant forms give terrain different meanings: a wall can become a route, while an obstruction can become something to break. Paired with hair attacks and discovered magic, that structure may appeal to players who want exploration and combat to draw on different tools.

Strengths

  • Transformation abilities can turn reading the terrain into an active part of progression.
  • Hair attacks and magic offer contrasting tools alongside movement-focused transformations.

Who it is for: Players who like ability-based exploration, creature transformations and pixel-art adventures.
