About this game

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun asks you to solve guarded spaces with a team whose members have different tools. Study patrol routes and sightlines, choose an approach, and time each specialist's actions. Yuki can lure an enemy into a trap, while other roles include disguise work and long-range shooting. Missions also allow poison or avoiding enemy contact. The campaign moves through castles, snowy mountain monasteries and forest camps, with relationships among the specialists developing along the way. Each new operation brings the question of how to combine the team's abilities around the location's defenses. The Nintendo Switch 2 version supports mouse mode for issuing commands.

8.8 / 10Nintendo Switch 2

Best suited to players who enjoy observing a problem before coordinating a solution.

Distinct specialist roles make planning a matter of matching tools to guarded spaces. Patrols and sightlines suggest an experience built around patient observation, so its appeal depends on enjoying the preparation as much as the execution.

Strengths

  • Different abilities and alternative approaches offer room to devise a personal infiltration plan.
  • Character relationships can give the sequence of operations a human thread.

Weaknesses

  • Watching patrols and arranging timing may feel laborious if you mainly want immediate action.

Who it is for: Players who like stealth puzzles, coordinated teams and testing routes through guarded locations.

Play notes: This overview covers the base game; Aiko’s Choice is included in the separately identified Ultimate Bundle.
