About this game
New Super Luigi U is a Wii U action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, area and route exploration, and local multiplayer or cooperative interaction. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Luigi’s starring games give Mario’s brother adventures of his own, from platforming to the ghost-hunting Luigi’s Mansion games. In the Mansion branch, you inspect suspicious rooms, stun ghosts and vacuum them up, with nervous comedy woven into the puzzles.

Tough, inventive platforming in a compact package.
New Super Luigi U reuses the eight-world setting of New Super Mario Bros. U but designs a fresh, shorter and tougher set of stages. Luigi jumps higher, slides more and can briefly flutter, while a 100-second clock asks players to keep momentum and collect Star Coins along a risky route. A direct Wii U review finds creative ideas distributed densely through the campaign. A skilled first clear may take around four to six hours, with hidden items and cleaner runs offering reasons to replay. The package does not remake the parent game’s extra challenge modes, and much of its scenery is familiar. Multiplayer becomes awkward when the tighter platforming makes players obstruct one another. The reviewed Wii U play was crisp at around 60 frames per second, making solo precision the strongest way to enjoy it. The content was sold both as DLC requiring the base game and as a standalone retail disc; this score evaluates their shared Wii U stages, not current digital purchase availability.
Strengths
- Fresh movement turns short stages into skill tests.
Weaknesses
- Reused assets and awkward multiplayer narrow appeal.
Who it is for: Skilled 2D platforming fans who enjoy replay.
Play notes: Wii U content; purchase formats and availability differ.
