About this game

Monster Hunter: World is an action game centred on hunting large monsters and crafting equipment. Hunters arrive in the New World with the Research Commission, tracking targets through different ecosystems and using terrain, wildlife and tools to create useful conditions for combat. Weapons have distinct movements and attacks, and materials obtained from hunts become weapons and armour for later quests. Players can hunt alone or cooperate with others, with Palicoes also providing support. Iceborne is a separately owned expansion, whose content is distinct from the base game’s hunting journey.

Collected in series

Monster Hunter is Capcom’s franchise about encounters with extraordinary creatures. Its action games turn preparation, well-timed attacks and gathered materials into successful hunts and new equipment, while the Stories spin-offs explore companionship with monsters through turn-based adventures.

MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD

Watching, preparing and committing to an attack form a rewarding hunt, although repeated gathering and management ask for patience.

A hunt becomes interesting before the final blow. Choosing equipment and watching how a creature moves give the encounter a shape that simple damage totals cannot explain. A committed attack has consequences, so learning when to hold back matters alongside learning what a weapon can do. The surrounding creatures and terrain can change an apparent duel into a different problem, encouraging awareness beyond the target. Returning with materials makes another attempt part of a longer equipment plan. That connection gives repetition purpose, but will not make gathering and menu work equally appealing to everyone. Creature animation and contrasting habitats help make observation rewarding in itself. The inspected PC review describes configurable keyboard and mouse controls that worked comfortably for its reviewer. Its strongest invitation is to players who want to understand a demanding activity over time, with solo hunting also available alongside cooperative play.

Strengths

  • Weapon commitment, creature behaviour and equipment planning make learning useful across repeated hunts.

Weaknesses

  • Repeated material gathering and equipment management can interrupt the excitement of encounters.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy observing opponents, practising weapons and preparing for another demanding hunt.

Play notes: Base PC input: James Davenport, PC Gamer, August 7, 2018, GTX1070/16GB/i7-7700HQ; patch/inputdevice/hours unspecified. Configurability and comfort are dated usability observations, not current FPS or multiplayer measurements. Iceborne-only mechanics and its score are excluded. Capcom’s September 28, 2025 notice stops guaranteeing Windows10 compatibility from October14 and ends new investigations; it does not announce immediate loss of playability.
