About this game
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a stealth-action prologue set in 1975, following Peace Walker. Snake enters a military facility in southern Cuba on a rescue mission. Weapons, intelligence and military vehicles can be acquired on site, leaving room to choose a route into the target area. Additional missions give the location different objectives beyond the central story. Observation and information gathering help shape how to approach each assignment.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes
Reactive guards and alternative routes make a strong infiltration playground within a small package.
Ground Zeroes makes a single facility worth studying. Guards take cover, investigate a last known position and attempt flanking manoeuvres, encouraging players to hide, relocate or continue a firefight as circumstances change. Different entrances give the rescue mission multiple approaches. The identified PS3 account finds crouching after a sprint and taking cover responsive; rain, animation and distant thunder reinforce the tension. Context-sensitive actions can still misread intent, turning an attempt to use equipment into an unwanted vault. The larger limitation is breadth: a brief main assignment and a limited weapon selection constrain the campaign. Additional missions extend the opportunity to experiment, but cannot turn a prologue into a lengthy adventure. It suits players who enjoy refining routes and repeating infiltration attempts more than those seeking a substantial sequence of story missions.
Strengths
- Reactive guards encourage adaptable routes
- Responsive crouching and cover actions
Weaknesses
- Brief main story and limited weapons
- Contextual actions can misread intent
Who it is for: Players who enjoy studying a facility and refining alternative infiltration routes.
Play notes: Independent judgment from Stan Galupo’s PS3 account, not our own playtest. The page says updated April 6, 2023, but launch-relative prose and 2014 comments indicate a historical test. Exact test date, patch, model and hours are unknown; this is not a verified 2023 retest. Incorrect clone chronology and an explicitly untried truck-route speculation are excluded.

| Dimension The brief rescue mission and limited weapons constrain campaign breadth. Additional assignments and routes offer replay value, but much depends on enjoying repeated study of the same facility. | Reviewed | 6.8 / 10 | 0.25 |
| Dimension Guards investigate, take cover and flank, requiring plans to adapt to their reactions. Different entrances and approaches give repeat attempts a purpose beyond memorising a single route. | Reviewed | 8.6 / 10 | 0.4 |
| Dimension Rain, wet faces and fluid character animation support the PS3 setting, with distant thunder reinforcing tension. Reported difficulty distinguishing two voices slightly limits the clarity of otherwise convincing presentation. | Reviewed | 8.5 / 10 | 0.2 |
| Dimension The PS3 account finds crouching after a sprint and taking cover responsive. Context-sensitive actions can trigger an unintended move, making familiarity with prompts important despite that responsiveness. | Reviewed | 8.0 / 10 | 0.15 |
