About this game

LEGO The Hobbit is a Wii U puzzle game centered on puzzle, maze, or device solving, collection and development goals, and rule recognition. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio, touch, or pointer feedback need to support decisions directly, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that limited explanations, input recognition, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

5.9 / 10Wii U

A broad Middle-earth adventure with rough Wii U execution.

LEGO The Hobbit on Wii U retains the series' familiar smashing, rebuilding, character switching and collection loop. A broad Middle-earth hub and some striking film set pieces, particularly around Smaug, give fans recognizable places to explore. The GamePad is a genuine platform advantage: its map is useful, and local co-op can put one player's view on its screen rather than forcing a split television image. Much of the campaign is less successful. The Wii U-specific review describes padded missions, confusing character abilities, awkward puzzles and boss encounters, while the story ends after the first two films. Free play and errands extend the checklist but do not supply the missing third-film resolution. Technical evidence is also platform-specific: the contemporary review observed choppy frame rate, worse in multiplayer, and several crashes in its test build. Later patch status is unverified, so those observations are dated rather than asserted as universal current behavior. There is still collectible LEGO enjoyment here, but it comes in an uneven Wii U package.

Strengths

  • Broad hub and notable Smaug spectacle.
  • Useful GamePad map and co-op option.

Weaknesses

  • Uneven level design and unfinished story.
  • Contemporary Wii U hitches and crashes.

Who it is for: LEGO fans valuing Wii U dual-screen local play.

Play notes: Technical faults are dated review-build observations.
