About this game

Kane & Lynch 2 - Dog Days is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, area and route exploration, and story, case, or mission progress. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

A vivid crime-video style around a narrow shooter.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days on PlayStation 3 makes its strongest impression through deliberately degraded camcorder imagery. Grain, camera shake and neon-lit Shanghai streets make the firefights feel like an unstable crime video. Cover shooting is more capable than in the first game, and destructible scenery lends confrontations some force. The campaign seldom moves beyond that formula, however, and the directly reviewed PS3 build offered only a roughly three-to-five-hour story. Fragile Alliance is a more interesting addition: criminals must cooperate to steal and escape while any teammate can betray the others. Its small map pool limits the longer-term payoff. The reviewer also encountered lobby crashes and waits in that particular setup. Camera shake can be disabled, but the conflict between visual identity and aiming clarity remains. This assessment concerns the reviewed European 2010 PS3 release, not a claim that its launch-period connection issues still exist or that another platform behaves identically. Its abrasive style will appeal more than its narrow solo campaign.

Strengths

  • Camcorder styling and betrayals give the action identity.

Weaknesses

  • The brief campaign varies little, and tested lobbies were unreliable.

Who it is for: Players drawn to harsh crime atmosphere and co-operative shooter tension.

Play notes: Lobby problems were observed in the reviewed PS3 setup; current service is unverified.
