About this game

Jeanne d'Arc is a PSP role-playing game centered on character or equipment growth, turn-based tactical decisions, and story, case, or mission progress. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

8.3 / 10PlayStation Portable

Brisk tactical design with uneven production details.

Jeanne d’Arc on PSP turns a historical figure into the center of a fantasy war, but its real strength is a brisk tactical system. Facing and terrain height affect attacks; transformations can grant extra turns after a kill; burning auras turn one strike into a positioning opportunity for another unit. Skill stones and their combinations gradually widen party construction without making the rules unusually hard to enter. A direct review of the original PSP game praises its roughly thirty-hour story, lively battles and clear battlefield presentation. There are limitations: the small character models sit uneasily beside more serious illustrations, the soundtrack can repeat, and the larger strategy framework is familiar rather than radical. Those shortcomings do not erase the pleasure of linking several understandable rules into a decisive turn. This score is restricted to the 2007 handheld release. Rewind, quick saving and up-rendering associated with later PlayStation reissues are not retroactively credited to this version. Players seeking story and focused tactical choices should find a substantial adventure.

Strengths

  • Transformations, auras and stones create layered choices.

Weaknesses

  • Inconsistent art, repeated music and familiar structure.

Who it is for: Players wanting story-rich tactics without slow turns.

Play notes: Original PSP release; later reissue conveniences are excluded.
