About this game

Hotshot Racing centers on arcade driving in which drifting and following an opponent's slipstream build boost. You steer through corners, collect that resource and release it as a burst of speed. Grand Prix offers race competition, while the single-player Time Trial focuses on lap times across courses with coastal, jungle, alpine and desert scenery. Other modes change what staying ahead means. Drive or Explode attaches a bomb to each car and raises the minimum safe speed as play continues. In Cops and Robbers, captured robbers become police, changing the balance of the pursuit. The non-Time-Trial modes also support split-screen play for up to four players, with a compatible controller required for each participant.

7.8 / 10Nintendo Switch

An appealing design for players who want drifting to feed both speed and varied race objectives.

Generating boost through drifting and slipstreaming makes cornering and proximity to rivals part of the same resource loop. The bomb threshold and changing police teams offer different pressures from lap-time chasing, so the mode choice should matter to the kind of session you want.

Strengths

  • Boost generation can make practicing a corner useful for more than simply avoiding a collision.
  • The survival and pursuit rules can vary the purpose of a race without leaving the driving framework.

Weaknesses

  • Players who mainly want to compare Time Trial runs side by side cannot use split-screen in that mode.

Who it is for: Arcade racing fans who enjoy managing drift-built boost and choosing between lap-time practice, pursuit and local competition.

Play notes: Each multiplayer participant needs a compatible controller; Time Trial is single-player only.
