About this game
Hitman: Codename 47 is a PC shooter game centered on aiming and shooting, positioning and evasion, and weapon and firepower management. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Hitman makes a guarded location into a puzzle for Agent 47 to unravel. Watching routines, borrowing disguises and spotting opportunities can open a route to a target. Its assassination missions invite you to return with a different plan and see how the same place reacts.

Distinctive stealth ideas held back by rough PC execution.
The original Windows release of Hitman: Codename 47 establishes an unusual assassination framework. Disguises, hidden bodies, equipment purchases, and target observation suggest missions that reward patient infiltration across memorable international locations. There are enjoyable moments when guards react and a plan works. Too often, however, briefings are vague, solutions are heavily scripted, and an assignment demands a firefight instead of stealth. The PC interface compounds those problems: the object cursor can fail until it is moved slightly, interior camera views are obscured, and 47 catches on scenery. There is no mid-mission save, so an experiment lost to those faults can require a complete restart. Detailed environments, bright textures, and a brooding score give the game a strong early identity, even with repetitive guard dialogue. Those strengths do not erase the persistent input and recovery friction. Later remade missions and compatibility layers are outside this assessment.
Strengths
- Disguises and body handling create memorable infiltration possibilities.
Weaknesses
- Obscured camera, unreliable clicks, and no mid-mission save.
Who it is for: Players interested in the series origin who accept substantial friction.
Play notes: This covers the 2000 PC original, not later remade missions.
