About this game

Hellpoint is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on location exploration, character and object interaction, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Eerie PS5 souls-like with rough navigation.

Hellpoint on PS5 places souls-like combat inside a station corrupted by interdimensional forces. Its occult science-fiction art, creature designs and atmospheric music make exploration uneasy and distinctive. A direct review of the upgraded PS5 release finds that its basic controls and fighting satisfy the genre’s expectations, even if platforming is awkward and the overall finish falls short of the best examples. The more persistent obstacle is deliberately cryptic progression. Uncertainty can encourage discovery, but insufficient hints also interrupt momentum and make navigation frustrating. In the reviewer’s PS5 experience, frame behavior was solid and loads were short, so the technical upgrade reduces waiting without fixing the underlying design roughness. Crucially, the reviewer could not access the story DLC released alongside the upgrade. This rating covers the base game and observed PS5 improvements only, not the extra chapter. Players who enjoy getting lost in eerie souls-likes may find it worthwhile; those seeking precise jumps and clear guidance should be cautious.

Strengths

  • Distinctive sci-fi horror and short PS5 loads.

Weaknesses

  • Opaque progression and awkward platforming.

Who it is for: Souls-like fans comfortable with cryptic routes.

Play notes: PS5 base game only; story DLC not reviewed.
