About this game
Grinch is a Game Boy Color action release centered on puzzle, maze, or device solving, movement and immediate actions, and enemy and hazard responses. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on campaign length or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Readable animation, hits, and hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while color choices need to distinguish characters, objects, and routes rather than serve as decoration alone. The main genre-specific friction is that period-specific collision rules, limited guidance, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. In addition, battery saves, link cables, cartridge-specific hardware, the unlit display, and regional language can affect the original experience. This description covers only this release and excludes emulator features, modern-port conveniences, and content from other platforms.

Game Boy Color (GBC)AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
Clever stealth mazes are stronger than the crouching and driving controls.
This GBC adaptation turns stealing presents into a stealth maze rather than reproducing the console adventure. Patrol openings, sight-blocking furniture and snowballs replenished only on snow make collecting gifts a sequence of useful decisions. Later layouts add ice, teleportation and tighter routes, so the central design genuinely develops. Alternate sections are less consistent: Max's powerful bark encourages repetitive stunning, while kart momentum is awkward beside ordinary movement. Timers can make exploration depend on failed attempts and memorization, and unreliable crouching adds execution friction. Collected gifts survive captures until Game Over, with immediate stage restarts softening punishment. Recognizable characters, festive melodies and darker musical passages establish playful holiday mischief, although bright blue snow can be tiring. It rewards players who enjoy reading patrols and planning escapes more than those seeking polished action controls.
Strengths
- Patrols, barriers and finite snowballs give collection meaningful route decisions.
- Developing mazes and holiday presentation support the premise.
Weaknesses
- Crouching, vehicle momentum and overpowered barking create uneven sections.
Who it is for: For players who enjoy stealth mazes and planned escapes.
Play notes: GBC original only; timed stages require route learning, without console or DS features.
