About this game
Gex 64 - Enter the Gecko is a Nintendo 64 action game centered on movement and immediate actions, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while 3D scenes, fog, textures, and cartridge audio need to preserve target readability within limited memory and television output. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include camera control, stick precision, Controller Pak saves, Rumble Pak support, Expansion Pak requirements, and four-player setup can affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.
Collected in series
Gex is a comic platform-adventure series starring a wisecracking gecko lost in television-inspired worlds. You jump through genre parodies, swat enemies with your tail and search for secrets, with the original's 2D stages giving way to 3D exploration in the sequels.

Nintendo 64AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
Inventive themes are undermined by awkward N64 navigation.
The original Nintendo 64 Gex 64 sends its wisecracking gecko through three-dimensional worlds modeled on television and film genres. Separate missions and collectible objectives give the levels a clear framework, while horror and cartoon themes offer visual variety. The basic activities of jumping, exploring and striking with the tail ought to carry that framework. In the direct N64 review, however, judging Gex’s position against enemies and platforms is repeatedly difficult. The camera can only pan slowly, so it cannot quickly correct a bad view before a jump or attack. Repeated quips, heavy fog and frequent frame-rate drops further diminish the themed presentation. This judgment applies to the original N64 cartridge; the better-looking PlayStation version cannot supply its technical verdict. Players curious about the television parodies may find some ideas to appreciate, but those seeking precise three-dimensional platforming will face persistent friction.
Strengths
- Television and film themes distinguish the mission worlds.
Weaknesses
- Distance judgment, camera panning and slowdown obstruct jumps.
Who it is for: Players curious about early 3D platformers and tolerant of control friction.
Play notes: Original N64 cartridge only; PlayStation performance is excluded.
