About this game
Ganbare Goemon - Dero Dero Douchuu Obake Tenkomori is a Nintendo 64 action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, movement and immediate actions, and enemy and hazard responses. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while 3D scenes, fog, textures, and cartridge audio need to preserve target readability within limited memory and television output. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include camera control, stick precision, Controller Pak saves, Rumble Pak support, Expansion Pak requirements, and four-player setup can affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

A lively platform adventure with visibility frustrations.
Goemon’s Great Adventure turns the series’ comic Japanese-fantasy world into a lively Nintendo 64 platformer. Five worlds contain branching exits, while four playable characters, hidden fortune dolls and weapon improvements give a reason to revisit stages. Two-player cooperation and giant-robot encounters make the journey feel unusually festive. Colorful scenery and memorable music are central to its identity rather than decoration. The cheerful appearance conceals a fairly demanding game, however: enemies can arrive from outside the visible area, and cooperation has restrictions. This judgment concerns the original N64 work, not later emulation or a hypothetical technical remaster. Japanese and Western releases also differ in some vocal tracks, so the catalog’s worldwide region label cannot mean identical audio everywhere. Players willing to explore alternative routes and tolerate old-fashioned visibility problems will find a distinctive, rewarding action adventure.
Strengths
- Branching stages, distinct characters and music.
Weaknesses
- Off-screen threats and constrained co-op.
Who it is for: Players fond of exploratory comic platformers.
Play notes: Original N64 game; regional vocal tracks differ.
