About this game

FIFA 09 is a Xbox 360 sports game centered on sport controls, shifts between attack and defense, and score or tournament goals. Matches, challenges, and tournament goals give sessions clear boundaries, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Players, venues, animation, and score feedback establish the match atmosphere, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that opponent ai, control precision, multiplayer accessories, and period-specific rosters can affect consistency. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Deep team play with historical Xbox 360 network lag.

FIFA 09 on Xbox 360 makes positioning and passing central to every match. Player weight, runs and adaptive opponents reward building an attack through midfield instead of relying on tricks alone. The occasional goalkeeper mistake or poorly chosen defender switch interrupts that sense of control. A four-season Be a Pro career, manager play, Lounge matches and custom tactics provide several ways to return to the pitch. Controlling only one player can also mean waiting away from the ball for long stretches. Improved contact animations, licensed presentation, varied music and energetic commentary give the game a strong match atmosphere, although lines sometimes repeat or miss the situation. The direct review specifically identifies more online lag on Xbox 360 than on PS3 and notes occasional slowdown. Those launch-era multiplayer problems are a genuine platform concern, but they do not imply the offline match is impaired. The time-limited Live Season updates are treated as historical content, not a current entitlement, and current online availability has not been verified.

Strengths

  • Passing tactics, lasting modes and match presentation.

Weaknesses

  • AI lapses, off-ball waits and online lag.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy team building and passing play.

Play notes: Launch-era Xbox 360 only; current online service unverified.
