About this game

Fat Princess - Fistful of Cake is a PSP strategy game centered on combat encounters, character or equipment growth, and turn-based tactical decisions. Missions add map constraints, new rules, and tougher opposition, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Maps, unit states, and action feedback determine whether complex situations remain readable, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that tutorial depth, dense menus, controller pointing, and long scenarios increase the learning curve. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

A playful team contest weakened by bots and communication.

Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake brings the absurd princess-rescue contest to PSP. Carrying cake makes the opposing princess harder to retrieve, while switching among combat, healing and resource roles can produce entertaining teamwork. Bright, storybook violence retains the comic identity, and compact matches suit a handheld. The reduction to eight players a side loses some of the larger console game’s scale. Its added solo campaign is unmemorable, and computer teammates struggle to coordinate the class roles. A direct PSP review also notes the absence of voice chat, a particularly consequential limitation for a team game. This judgment is specific to the historical handheld release: neither PlayStation 3 match size nor an assumption about present-day online server availability is imported. With cooperative human partners it can still be lively, but relying on bots reveals the adaptation’s weaknesses quickly.

Strengths

  • Class teamwork, rescue objective and cheerful style.

Weaknesses

  • Forgettable campaign, weak bots and no voice chat.

Who it is for: Casual competitors with human teammates.

Play notes: PSP edition only; current online service is unverified.
