About this game
Extreme-G is a Nintendo 64 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, aiming and shooting, and positioning and evasion. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while 3D scenes, fog, textures, and cartridge audio need to preserve target readability within limited memory and television output. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and multiplayer service conditions can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include camera control, stick precision, Controller Pak saves, Rumble Pak support, Expansion Pak requirements, and four-player setup can affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.
Collected in series
Extreme-G is a futuristic racing series where heavily armed motorcycles tear through twisting science-fiction tracks. Holding a clean line matters, but so does deciding when to boost and when to disrupt the rider ahead.

Nintendo 64AI review

A strong combat racer with a four-player slowdown caveat.
Extreme-G turns futuristic motorcycle racing into a contest over position and resources. A limited stock of boosts is best saved for decisive moments, while weapons and shield pickups let rivals contest a lead. Twelve tracks develop from straightforward high-speed routes into space-station courses with steep drops, splits, pulsating walls and lava. Their visual spectacle reinforces the sensation of speed, and players who prefer pure racing can turn weapons off. The game is particularly attractive with friends. A direct Nintendo 64 review reports that two-player racing holds up well, although four-player competition can slow down at times. That is an edition-specific limitation worth preserving, not a defect imported from its sequel. Solo competition is sound, but learning the routes and fighting over pickups with other players gives the strongest reason to return. This score concerns the original 1997 N64 release rather than XG2 or a later port. Fans of fast arcade racing with combat should find a capable and distinctive package.
Strengths
- Twelve tracks, combat resources and striking scenery.
Weaknesses
- Four-player slowdown and route-mastery dependence.
Who it is for: Fans of fast combat racing and local multiplayer.
Play notes: Original 1997 N64 game, not XG2.
