About this game
Earthworm Jim HD is a Xbox 360 shooter game centered on puzzle, maze, or device solving, positioning and evasion, and weapon and firepower management. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Earthworm Jim turns an ordinary worm in a powerful spacesuit into a very unlikely action hero. Jumping, shooting and using Jim himself as a whip carry you through strange places full of visual jokes and unexpected challenges.

A vivid HD restoration retaining old control quirks.
Earthworm Jim HD on Xbox 360 is more than a filter over the old sprites. Its cartoon characters, monsters and scenery have been redrawn in sharp high resolution while keeping the original game’s manic style. Head-whipping, shooting, gliding, submarine travel and bungee jumping still make for a wildly varied trip. Some inherited movement rules feel restrictive now: Jim cannot shoot in midair or jump directly upward from a hanging position. The solo route is short, but bonus stages and a multiplayer mode mixing cooperation with competition give it more to revisit. Direct Xbox 360 reviews find the classic buttons mapped naturally to the controller, with D-pad or stick movement available. Four-player shared-screen play pulls the camera back, and the launch-era reviewer reports that an online session could end when a partner disconnected. Neither observation establishes current service availability. Remastered music and vivid backgrounds are strong, though repeated voice effects and a few recycled transitions can wear thin. Players who enjoy old-fashioned action boundaries will find a lovingly restored oddity.
Strengths
- Redrawn art, varied stages and cooperative multiplayer.
Weaknesses
- Brief solo play, inherited controls and distant co-op view.
Who it is for: Fans of classic 2D action and surreal cartoons.
Play notes: The 2010 XBLA build; current online status is unverified.
