About this game

DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a Wii U adventure game centered on location exploration, character and object interaction, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Pleasant island flight without a strong campaign.

The Wii U How to Train Your Dragon 2 turns Berk into an island to fly over, with several dragons that handle somewhat differently. Races, small challenges and hidden rewards give each trip a destination, and the sea and mountain views are inviting from above. The package has no overarching main quest, however, so sustained play can feel like a succession of scattered side activities. Close scenery and trees look much rougher than the broad skyline. A direct Wii U review describes continuous flight around the island without loading boundaries and fluid basic steering, a welcome fit for a game about riding dragons. It also notes an erratic camera and a touch-screen challenge whose input is not explained. The result is an accessible film companion for players who want short flights with familiar characters. Anyone expecting a full narrative campaign or deep flight simulation should approach it as a lighter collection of diversions. The separate handheld game is outside this judgment.

Strengths

  • Dragon variety and inviting island vistas.

Weaknesses

  • Scattered goals, rough close detail and camera friction.

Who it is for: Film fans seeking short, open flight sessions.

Play notes: Wii U review only; the handheld game differs.
