About this game
Dragon Age Origins is a PlayStation 3 role-playing game centered on combat encounters, character or equipment growth, and turn-based tactical decisions. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Dragon Age is BioWare’s fantasy role-playing series set in Thedas. Build a hero, fight alongside companions and make difficult choices about whom to trust or support. Conversations and personal quests give those companions a place in the adventure beyond their combat abilities.

A strong RPG with specific PS3 camera and command tradeoffs.
The original PlayStation 3 Dragon Age: Origins retains the six openings, companion relationships and branching quests that make its long adventure rewarding. Character choices affect more than the introduction, and a four-person party still turns difficult fights into decisions about skills and cooperation. This release uses a behind-character view and shoulder-button switching between companions. That perspective makes combat feel closer to one hero but cannot oversee the entire group as immediately as the PC overhead camera. A direct comparison of the original versions finds better textures, color and loading on PS3 than on the reviewed Xbox 360 build. It also observes frame jitter while turning the camera and occasional visual hiccups. These are period observations, not claims about the current patch state. For someone playing on a PS3, the writing and party systems remain substantial rewards. Players particularly sensitive to uneven camera motion or seeking precise tactical commands should account for this release’s limits.
Strengths
- Six origins, companions and branching quests.
Weaknesses
- No PC overhead view and some camera jitter.
Who it is for: PS3 players seeking a long party-based RPG.
Play notes: Technical observations concern the reviewed original PS3 release.
