About this game
Disgaea 2 - Dark Hero Days is a PSP role-playing game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and area exploration. Story beats, exploration, and progression resources support a longer campaign, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Characters, world building, environments, and music carry most of the atmosphere, while the portable widescreen, UMD streaming, compressed audio, and handheld-scale interface need to preserve targets, text, and action readability. The genre-specific limitation is that dense text, menu layers, repeated battles, loading, or language dependence can slow progress. Platform conditions also include single-nub camera control, UMD loading and noise, Memory Stick saves, battery life, regional language, ad hoc requirements, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Disgaea turns the Netherworld into a stage for comic demon stories and squad-based strategy RPG battles. Positioning allies, combining attacks and developing characters and equipment all matter, with lifting and throwing opening up playful ways to rearrange the battlefield.

A strong portable tactics edition whose long grind remains demanding.
Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days is assessed as a 2009 PSP edition, not a transferred PS2 score. Grid positioning, throws, adjacent combinations and the ability to execute planned attacks in sequence give individual turns meaningful tactical choices. This version adds the post-campaign Axel story, Magichange and other class and skill changes. Random Item World floors suit a short handheld visit, even though pursuing the highest levels still demands substantial repetition. Axel’s extra story is shorter than the main campaign, and Adell’s more conventional hero plot may be less engaging than the series’ earlier cast. Contemporary PSP play accounts find the small-screen sprites clear and proportional, with lively music but uneven English voice work and some inherited localization errors. Faster battle animations, loads of only a few seconds, town saves between fights and improved menus reduce the friction of portable grinding. The rating includes the base Dark Hero Days content, not separately downloadable characters or later PC changes. It suits players who enjoy tactical experimentation and long-term growth; those seeking a compact story should expect a much larger commitment.
Strengths
- Axel Mode and handheld-friendly battles and saves.
Weaknesses
- Short bonus story, uneven English delivery and lengthy late growth.
Who it is for: PSP players who enjoy tactics and long character growth.
Play notes: Downloadable characters and PS2 or PC changes are excluded.
